Product Information

Also known for being highly attractive to deer nitrogen. Persian Clover is low-growing nitrogen producer, usually six inches tall, but can reach up to one ft.

Persian Clover will reseed itself under perfect conditions. Persian Clover produces small and sweet pink-purple flowers approx. 110-150 days after germination. Persian Clover can be planted as early as the last chance of frost in the spring or in the fall. Persian Clover has a fair cold tolerance. If extremely low temperatures occur for a period of time, then winterkill could be likely. Persian Clover has moderate salinity tolerance and average drought tolerance. Preferred soils would be loamy clay or river bottom (poorly drained).

Persian Clover may be overseeded into a grass sod. The sod should be grazed or mowed closely to remove excess forage and allow the clover to compete. Cut with a medium-to-lightweight disk or chopper before seeding is acceptable. The purpose of this cultivation is not to destroy the sod but to expose some soil so that seed can come in direct contact with it when planted. Broadcasting is a common application method to interseed in an existing pasture. It is common to seed Persian clover with an annual winter grass. To maintain a good stand of clover after grazing, don't allow livestock to consume below 2 in. of plant material and rotate animals regularly to prevent overgrazing.
